Canadian Aboriginal Writing Challenge

Here is some information for students regarding this years Canadian Aboriginal Writing Challenge. Students have the opportunity of winning the grand prize in the contest which is having their story published and $2000.00. This is a valuable tool created to get those creative juices flowing, and connect youth to their culture. First Nations, Inuit, or Metis Students can apply! Group entries are also welcomed, and there are additional prizes for these participants. The contest deadline is March 31, 2010. This is a great way to help students try to win some extra $$$ towards post-secondary education.

Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) Career Showcase

For graduating students interested in pursuing careers in the fields of justice and public safety, whether as paramedics, firefighters, police officers, social workers, counsellors, sheriffs or correctional officers, the JIBC Career Showcase provides a unique opportunity to learn more about these career choices and their pre-requisites.

Date:

Friday, March 19, 2010

Time:

9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Location:

JIBC - New Westminster Campus
715 McBride Boulevard, New Westminster

The Showcase will feature display booths that will allow students to browse, collect information and ask questions about various career choices and programs available at the Institute, as well as attend a number of presentations by current justice and public safety professionals.

In order to plan event logistics, we need some indication of planned attendance at the Showcase.  In addition, this year we are considering hosting both a morning and an afternoon session.  If possible, schools that are interested attending should confirm their interest by emailing communications@jibc.ca  - by Friday February 5, 2010.  Please provide an estimate of the number of students that may be attending, your preference for attending the morning or afternoon session and identify any specific areas of interest.

If there are any questions about the Showcase, please call 604.528.5874 or email communications@jibc.ca.

With many thanks for your support in helping us to develop an event that provides a meaningful opportunity for students to learn about career opportunities in the fields of criminal and social justice and public safety.
